Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Sunday appealed to all political parties to ensure the smooth functioning of Parliament during the upcoming Monsoon Session, stating that disruptions do not provide political benefits and only result in a waste of public resources. His remarks came ahead of an all-party meeting convened by the government to seek cooperation from various political groups.
Addressing reporters before the meeting, Rijiju said Parliament belongs to all elected representatives and urged both the ruling party and Opposition to participate constructively in discussions on government business and legislative proposals. He said effective functioning of Parliament would ultimately benefit the country by allowing important issues to be debated and addressed.
Rijiju emphasised that parliamentary democracy provides members with the opportunity to express their views and raise public concerns. He said there should be strong and meaningful debates inside the House, while maintaining that disagreements should be communicated through discussions rather than disruptions.

Referring to disruptions witnessed during previous sessions, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister said repeated interruptions affect the productivity of Parliament and are not appreciated by citizens. He urged Opposition parties to cooperate with the government, adding that the ruling side would also remain open to hearing their concerns during the session.
The minister said disruptions lead to a loss of valuable time and public money, especially when important legislative work is pending. He added that while opposition to government policies is a part of democracy, it should be expressed through debate and parliamentary procedures. Rijiju assured that the government would extend cooperation and expected similar participation from all parties.
The Monsoon Session of Parliament will begin on July 20 and continue until August 13. The four-week session will include 19 sittings, during which several bills and government matters are expected to be taken up for discussion. The all-party meeting was organised at the Main Committee Room of Parliament House Annexe to build consensus for the functioning of both Houses.
