Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi launched a blistering attack on the Modi government in the Lok Sabha, accusing it of lacking the political will to fight Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, India’s response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
Gandhi claimed the government restrained the armed forces, forcing pilots to avoid Pakistan’s military infrastructure and air defenses, leading to aircraft losses. “You tied their hands behind their backs,” he charged, citing India’s defense attache in Indonesia, Captain Shiv Kumar.
Gandhi slammed Defence Minister Rajnath Singh for comparing Operation Sindoor to the 1971 war, where Indira Gandhi’s resolve led to Bangladesh’s creation, contrasting it with the Centre’s call for a ceasefire at 1:35 AM on May 7, just 22 minutes after strikes began. “You told Pakistan we won’t escalate, revealing no will to fight,” he said.
He also questioned why PM Modi didn’t call out US President Donald Trump for claiming 29 times he brokered an India-Pakistan ceasefire, noting no nation condemned Pakistan specifically post-attack.
Gandhi accused the government of undermining deterrence by equating every terror act to war, empowering terrorists. “This government is clueless about deterrence,” he declared, pledging the INDIA bloc’s support for the forces but criticizing political missteps.
