Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi has called for a high-level investigation into the alleged rape and murder case in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, while strongly criticising what he described as systemic bias in cases involving marginalised victims. He also demanded swift justice and accountability from the authorities handling the investigation.
In his statement, Rahul Gandhi said that in repeated instances of sexual violence cases, “the victim is Dalit, poor,” raising concerns over delayed justice and institutional response. He argued that such cases reflect deeper structural issues in how crimes against vulnerable communities are investigated and prosecuted.
The remarks come amid growing political attention on the Ghazipur case, which has triggered protests and public outrage in parts of Uttar Pradesh. Opposition leaders have been pressing for a more transparent investigation, alleging lapses in the initial handling of the complaint and response by local authorities.

Officials have not yet issued a detailed public response to the demand for a high-level probe, but police sources have indicated that the investigation is ongoing and all aspects of the case are being examined. Forensic analysis and witness statements are reportedly being reviewed as part of standard procedure.
The incident has once again brought national focus to issues of violence against women and the speed of judicial processes in sensitive cases. Political leaders and social activists continue to call for stronger safeguards, faster trials, and improved support systems for victims and their families.
