Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Friday marked two years since assuming office as the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, reaffirming his commitment to what he described as an ongoing political and ideological struggle focused on social justice, institutional accountability and the protection of the Constitution. In a message shared on social media platform X, along with a video and newsletter, Gandhi said he intends to continue taking public concerns “from the streets to Parliament” and remain engaged in what he called the larger fight for democratic values.
Rahul Gandhi became the Leader of Opposition in June 2024, following the Congress party’s formal communication to the Pro-tem Speaker during the inaugural session of the 18th Lok Sabha. His appointment came after the INDIA bloc agreed on his name for the position. It marked his first constitutional and statutory parliamentary role since he entered electoral politics in 2004, and placed him in a formal institutional position within India’s parliamentary opposition framework.
In his reflection on two years in office, Gandhi said that his time as LoP has been dedicated to amplifying the voices of citizens within Parliament. He stated that his focus has remained on issues concerning social justice, economic inequality, and the functioning of democratic institutions. According to him, every day in office has been guided by the objective of ensuring that public concerns are represented in legislative debates and political discourse.

Gandhi also shared a compilation of key moments from his tenure, highlighting his participation in parliamentary debates, public meetings and outreach programmes across different states. He emphasised that the role of Leader of Opposition is not limited to parliamentary interventions alone but also includes direct engagement with citizens to understand their concerns and bring them into the national conversation.
In his message, Gandhi reiterated his belief that India’s democratic framework must be actively protected and strengthened. He said that the responsibility of the opposition is to question the government, hold institutions accountable and ensure that diverse voices are heard in the policy-making process. He added that this responsibility requires sustained effort both inside and outside Parliament.
The Congress leader further stated that the journey ahead remains long and challenging, indicating that he intends to continue his political campaign with a focus on constitutional values and social equity. “Every single day of these two years has been dedicated to one task—to carry the voice of every Indian to the corridors of power,” he said in his message, underscoring his emphasis on representation and public engagement.
As he completes two years as Leader of Opposition, Gandhi’s role continues to be central to parliamentary proceedings, where he leads debates on key national issues and represents the principal opposition voice in the Lok Sabha. His tenure has coincided with a politically active period in Parliament, marked by discussions on governance, economic policy and institutional reforms.
Looking ahead, Gandhi said he remains committed to continuing what he described as a long-term struggle for justice and accountability. He indicated that his political work will focus on strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring that citizens’ concerns remain at the forefront of parliamentary debate. With this, he marked his two-year milestone by reiterating both continuity and persistence in his approach to opposition politics.
