In a fiery address at the 'Ati Pichra Nyay Sankalp' symposium in Patna, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government, accusing it of exploiting extremely backward classes (EBCs) as a mere vote bank for two decades without delivering meaningful progress. Speaking to a gathering focused on justice for EBCs, Gandhi outlined bold promises to uplift the community, leveraging the upcoming Bihar assembly elections to rally support for the INDIA bloc.
Gandhi alleged that the Nitish Kumar government has consistently failed to address the socio-economic challenges faced by EBCs, a significant demographic in Bihar, using their votes to sustain power while neglecting their welfare. “For the last 20 years, the Nitish government has done nothing for EBCs except treat them as a vote bank,” he charged, emphasizing the need for systemic reforms to ensure equitable opportunities for marginalized communities.
The Congress leader unveiled a 10-point resolution passed during the symposium, aimed at transformative change for EBCs. A cornerstone of his pledge was the removal of the 50 per cent cap on reservations, a long-standing demand to enhance representation for backward classes. Additionally, Gandhi promised that an INDIA bloc government would mandate 50 per cent reservations for EBCs in all government contracts exceeding ₹25 crore, alongside ensuring quotas in private institutions to broaden economic inclusion.

Reflecting on his recently concluded 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' across Bihar, Gandhi described it as a resounding success, claiming it galvanized public awareness about threats to constitutional rights. “The yatra informed people how the Constitution is under attack and their rights are being stolen,” he said, positioning the INDIA bloc as a defender of democratic values and social justice ahead of the elections later this year.
Gandhi’s pledges signal a strategic push to consolidate EBC support, a critical voter base in Bihar’s complex political landscape. By combining sharp criticism of the incumbent government with ambitious policy proposals, the Congress leader aims to reshape the narrative around EBC empowerment, setting the stage for a heated electoral battle in the state.
