Bharatiya Janata Party Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha's name has been added to the voters' list of the national capital, currently undergoing revision as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Delhi's electoral rolls, poll officials confirmed on Tuesday. The development quickly became a point of political contention after opposition leaders raised objections over the manner in which the inclusion was processed.

Leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the party Chadha represented before switching to the BJP earlier this year, held a press conference alleging that his name was added to the electoral rolls of the Rajinder Nagar Assembly constituency without following due procedure. Rajinder Nagar holds particular significance in Chadha's political history, as he previously served as the constituency's MLA between 2020 and 2022, before resigning the seat to take up his Rajya Sabha position representing Punjab.

According to poll officials, Chadha's name was added to Delhi's rolls through the standard updation process associated with the SIR exercise, and his name was simultaneously removed from Punjab's electoral rolls, from where he had originally been elected to the Rajya Sabha by AAP in 2022. Officials at the office of the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer said that a total of 700 forms for inclusion of new names were approved by Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) across 70 Assembly constituencies in Delhi as of Tuesday, with Chadha's application counted among them.

The controversy comes amid the broader rollout of the Special Intensive Revision of Delhi's electoral rolls, a process that has drawn scrutiny from multiple political parties over its scope and procedural transparency. According to a statement from the Delhi CEO's office, the electoral roll was frozen on June 16 to allow preparation for the SIR exercise and remained frozen until August 31, when draft electoral rolls were subsequently published for public review and objections.

AAP's objections reflect the heightened political sensitivities surrounding Chadha's political trajectory, given his prominent past role within the party before his shift to the BJP in April 2026. His change in party affiliation, alongside several other former AAP Rajya Sabha members from Punjab, has been closely watched given the ongoing political realignment in both Punjab and Delhi. As the SIR process continues, further scrutiny of individual entries added to the rolls is expected, with political parties likely to continue raising objections over specific cases as the revision moves toward finalization.
