In a significant strategic maneuver ahead of the crucial Assembly elections, the Congress party has elevated Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to the position of Chairperson of the Screening Committee for Assam, signaling a deliberate effort to infuse national-level leadership and visibility into the party's campaign in this vital northeastern state where political competition remains fierce and multifaceted.
The formal announcement came via an official press release from AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, who detailed the immediate formation of Screening Committees for five states gearing up for polls—Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and West Bengal—marking an intensive phase of electoral groundwork across multiple regions.
Priyanka Gandhi's committee for Assam includes members Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka, Imran Masood, and Sirivella Prasad, who will collaborate on critical tasks such as shortlisting candidates, conducting internal consultations, and shaping strategy to bolster Congress's prospects in a state known for its complex electoral landscape involving regional alliances and identity politics.

Similar structures have been established for the other states: Madhusudan Mistry chairs Kerala's panel with Syed Naseer Hussain, Neeraj Dangi, and Abhishek Dutt; T.S. Singh Deo oversees Tamil Nadu and Puducherry alongside Yashomati Thakur, G.C. Chandrashekhar, and Anil Kumar Yadav; while B.K. Hariprasad leads West Bengal's efforts with Mohammad Jawed, Mamta Devi, and B.P. Singh as members.
To ensure seamless coordination, the AICC has designated General Secretaries/In-charges, PCC Presidents, CLP Leaders, and relevant AICC Secretaries as ex-officio members of these committees, facilitating unified decision-making as the Congress party intensifies its preparations for these high-stakes battles in the coming months.
