Senior Congress Leader and Former Union Minister Prithviraj Chavan has suggested the possibility of India seeing a new Prime Minister soon, linking his remarks to the December 19 release of the controversial Jeffrey Epstein files in the United States. Speaking at an event in Pimpri Chinchwad on Saturday, Chavan clarified that his comments were based on hypothetical political scenarios.
Chavan, who recently posted on social media hinting that a “Marathi manoos” could become India’s Prime Minister within a month, said several people had sought clarification on the remark. He explained that his statement was a political analysis, not a prediction, highlighting the potential for a leadership change should the current PM step down.
According to Chavan, the Epstein files are expected to contain sensitive material involving global leaders, including presidents and prime ministers. “Some data in the form of photos has already been released, and there is a logic that this might impact political developments in India,” he said, noting that names were already circulating on social media.

Chavan emphasized that if a new prime minister were to be appointed, it would likely come from within the BJP, and Maharashtra could be home to one of the potential candidates. He, however, refrained from naming specific individuals, stressing that it was a political possibility rather than a certainty.
The Epstein Files Transparency Act, passed by the US Congress and signed into law by President Donald Trump, mandates the public disclosure of Jeffrey Epstein-related records by December 19. Epstein, a financier with connections to celebrities and political figures, died by suicide in jail in 2019 after being arrested on sex trafficking charges.
Chavan’s comments have generated significant buzz on social media and political circles, with analysts noting that while speculative, the remarks underline the influence of international developments on domestic political discourse. Observers suggest that the coming weeks may see intensified political speculation as global and national narratives intersect.
