Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on Tuesday evening to enquire about the condition of his son, Mark Shankar, who was injured in a school fire in Singapore.
The incident, which occurred earlier today, left the eight-year-old with burns on his hands and legs, as well as respiratory distress from smoke inhalation, according to a statement from Kalyan’s Jana Sena Party.
The fire broke out at Mark Shankar’s school, prompting immediate concern for the safety of the students. The young boy was rushed to a hospital in Singapore, where he is currently undergoing treatment. While the exact cause of the fire remains unclear, the incident has drawn widespread attention, given Kalyan’s prominence as a Tollywood actor and political figure.
PM Modi, expressing solidarity, contacted Kalyan to check on his son’s health and offer support during this distressing time. Kalyan, who was on an official tour in Alluri Sitarama Raju district when he received the news, has decided to cut short his engagements.
Despite pressure from party leaders to leave immediately, he plans to fulfill a prior commitment to visit Kuridi village near Araku before departing for Singapore via Visakhapatnam.
The gesture from the Prime Minister underscores the gravity of the situation and the personal rapport between the two leaders. As Mark Shankar recovers, authorities in Singapore are investigating the fire, while Kalyan prepares to be by his son’s side, balancing his duties as a father and a public servant.
