Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday addressed a public rally in Jangipur, Murshidabad district, where he launched a sharp attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress, accused it of “appeasement politics,” and outlined key promises made by the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party in its election manifesto ahead of the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections.
In his address, Modi said the BJP’s manifesto, released earlier by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, represents a roadmap to end what he described as “misrule” in the state. He alleged that the ruling party had engaged in vote-bank politics and claimed that governance in West Bengal had deviated from earlier development-focused slogans.
The Prime Minister also announced that a key promise of his party would be the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code in West Bengal if the BJP comes to power. He said this step was necessary, according to him, to ensure uniformity in civil laws and to counter what he termed divisive political practices. He further asserted that the BJP would ensure that “Bengalis do not become a minority” in the state, linking the statement to concerns over demographic changes.

Modi accused the Trinamool Congress of relying on “infiltrator support” and alleged that the party had abandoned its earlier development-centric slogan. He also referred to incidents of violence during recent religious processions, claiming that law and order had deteriorated under the current administration.
The Prime Minister further alleged corruption within the state government and said that those responsible for wrongdoing would face legal consequences if the opposition formed the government. He also claimed that political violence had increased under the current regime and accused the ruling party of protecting individuals involved in such incidents.
The remarks come amid an intensifying election campaign in West Bengal, where political parties are making competing claims over governance, security, and development. With polling scheduled in multiple phases, the state continues to witness heightened political rhetoric as leaders travel across regions to consolidate voter support ahead of the decisive contest.
