Oracle Corporation is facing renewed scrutiny after a fresh round of layoffs reportedly impacted thousands of employees worldwide, including several staff members with more than three decades of service.
According to reports, the job cuts were communicated through early-morning emails on April 1 and affected workers across multiple regions, including the United States, India, Canada and parts of Latin America. Estimates suggest between 20,000 and 30,000 employees may have been impacted, though the company has not publicly confirmed an exact number.
The layoffs have drawn attention because some of those dismissed were long-serving employees with deep institutional experience. Among them was Nina Lewis, a senior security professional who said she had spent more than 33 years at Oracle before being let go. Sharing her experience publicly, Lewis described the decision as unexpected and said many respected colleagues were also affected during the same round of cuts.
Lewis reportedly joined Oracle in the early 1990s and worked through multiple generations of the company’s database and security systems. In her most recent role as security alert manager, she was responsible for helping enterprise customers understand software vulnerabilities and cyber threats. Her position also involved coordination between engineering teams, security divisions and clients during active threat situations, highlighting the strategic nature of the role.

The layoffs come at a time when Oracle has continued to report strong financial growth and increasing demand for its cloud and enterprise technology services. This contrast between business expansion and workforce reductions has raised broader questions about restructuring trends in the global technology sector.
Large technology firms have increasingly used layoffs to streamline operations, reduce costs and redirect investments toward artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure, even during periods of record revenue growth.
