Opposition legislators from the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) staged a dramatic protest on the steps of Vidhan Bhavan on Thursday, wielding pumpkins to symbolize the Maharashtra government’s alleged failure to deliver during the 2025 monsoon session, set to conclude Friday. The protest, marked by slogans like “loan waiver for farmers – a pumpkin” and “healthcare for people – a pumpkin,” accused the ruling Mahayuti alliance of neglecting critical issues affecting farmers, tribals, students, teachers, ASHA workers, and mill workers.
A banner proclaiming, “What have the people of Maharashtra received from this monsoon session? A pumpkin,” underscored the opposition’s claim that the government offered no tangible solutions. The MVA, comprising Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (SP), used the pumpkin as a metaphor for “nothing,” highlighting grievances over unfulfilled promises on farm loan waivers, healthcare, tribal rights, education, and jobs.
Key protesters included Congress MLCs Satej Patil and Abhijeet Wanjari, alongside Shiv Sena (UBT) MLAs Siddharth Kharat and Varun Sardesai. The demonstration follows ongoing MVA protests during the session, including over the controversial Maharashtra Special Public Security Bill and delays in appointing the Leader of Opposition.
