Former Lok Sabha member DK Suresh on Saturday put an end to speculation about his brother, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, vying for the Chief Minister’s post. Speaking to reporters, Suresh emphasized that Shivakumar, also the Congress state president, is “neither in a hurry nor under pressure” to replace Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who recently affirmed he would complete his full five-year term.
Suresh dismissed rumors of internal Congress conflict, stating that the party high command, Siddaramaiah, and Shivakumar have clarified their positions. “There’s no vacancy for the CM post, so why is this being discussed repeatedly?” he questioned, addressing media speculation. He underscored Shivakumar’s loyalty to the Congress high command and his commitment to his current responsibilities.
The remarks come amid earlier reports of a “rotational CM formula” post the May 2023 Assembly elections, suggesting Shivakumar would assume the CM role after two-and-a-half years. However, no official confirmation has been made by the Congress, which navigated intense competition between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar before appointing the former as CM and the latter as Deputy CM.
