Uncertainty continues over the alliance between the All India NR Congress (AINRC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the Puducherry Assembly elections, with discussions on seat-sharing still underway, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy said on Wednesday.
Rangasamy, speaking to reporters in Salem after offering prayers at the Sri Sarguru Appa Paithiyam Swamigal Temple in Suramangalam, emphasized that no final decision has yet been reached regarding the AINRC-BJP coalition. He performed a special puja and distributed prasadam to devotees before addressing the media.
When asked whether the alliance would continue, Rangasamy reiterated that talks are ongoing. He clarified that while he has conveyed his stance to BJP leaders, the discussions within the party regarding continuation of the coalition are still in progress.

“After finalising the alliance, we will announce the remaining details, including seat-sharing,” Rangasamy added, signaling that key decisions on the coalition structure are yet to be made. Sources suggest that Rangasamy has outlined certain conditions for the AINRC’s continued participation in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Puducherry, a Union Territory, has been governed by the NDA led by Rangasamy since the 2021 elections. The alliance was widely expected to continue into the 2026 polls, but recent political developments indicate strains within the coalition, prompting ongoing negotiations between the two parties.
The Puducherry Assembly elections are scheduled for a single phase on April 9, with the filing of nominations having begun on March 16. Party observers say the final announcement on alliance arrangements will be crucial in shaping the electoral strategy ahead of the polls.
