Political speculation is intensifying in Bihar following Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s nomination for the Rajya Sabha election, as key meetings within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) suggest discussions on the state’s leadership transition. On Friday, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) visited Kumar’s official residence for a closed-door meeting lasting approximately 25 minutes.
Sources indicate that the meeting may have focused on strategies for the coming days, potential leadership transitions, and the formation of a new government. Choudhary did not speak to the media, but his brief and hurried departure heightened speculation about the seriousness of the discussions.
Shortly after, Bihar’s second Deputy Chief Minister, Vijay Kumar Sinha, also met with Kumar at his residence, further fueling political conjecture. Observers believe these consultations with senior BJP leaders are aimed at charting the next course for the state government.

Adding to the political momentum, Nitish Kumar has scheduled a meeting with Janata Dal (United) legislators on Friday evening. Party spokesperson Neeraj Kumar, also an MLC, said the Chief Minister would explain the rationale behind his Rajya Sabha nomination, while legislators and MPs would have an opportunity to share their views.
Amid these developments, speculation is mounting over a possible resignation of Nitish Kumar as Chief Minister. Such a move could pose significant challenges not only for JD(U) but also for the NDA in Bihar. The situation has prompted internal tensions, with Kumar’s brother-in-law, Anil Kumar, claiming that party workers are blaming senior JD(U) leaders, including Sanjay Kumar Jha and Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, for allegedly conspiring in the current scenario.
For several days, political circles had anticipated that Nitish Kumar might shift to the Rajya Sabha, and his nomination now appears to accelerate the discussion over the state’s leadership. The sequence of high-level meetings in Patna underscores that decisions regarding Bihar’s political future are likely being carefully deliberated behind closed doors.
