The Congress party, led by Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi, demanded on Sunday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally respond in Parliament’s Monsoon session, starting July 21, to critical issues including the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, US President Donald Trump’s claims of brokering an India-Pakistan ceasefire, and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.
Speaking after an all-party meeting, Gogoi emphasized the “moral responsibility” of the PM to address these concerns, citing intelligence failures in Pahalgam and Trump’s statements questioning India’s sovereignty.
Gogoi also raised alarms over the Bihar SIR, alleging it threatens democratic voting rights, and called for discussions on foreign policy challenges, particularly with China and Pakistan, and the ongoing violence in Manipur, which Modi has yet to visit.
AICC General Secretary Jairam Ramesh, in a post on X, highlighted additional demands, including J&K statehood restoration, Ladakh’s Schedule VI status, and addressing the Gaza crisis. The INDIA bloc, in a separate meeting, vowed to unite in confronting the government on these issues during the session, which runs until August 21.
