A high-level review meeting covering 41 state government departments is scheduled to be held on Wednesday at Nabanna, the state secretariat located in Howrah district near Kolkata, as part of a detailed assessment of administrative performance and ongoing governance priorities.
The meeting will be chaired by West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, according to officials cited in the report. Each of the 41 departments is expected to send five representatives, including departmental secretaries, to participate in what is expected to be a long and comprehensive review session focused on governance efficiency and policy execution.
A key agenda of the meeting is the evaluation of budgetary allocations for the financial year 2026–27, along with a detailed analysis of current spending patterns. Officials indicated that the discussion will aim to identify areas where expenditure can be expedited to improve project delivery, as well as highlight spending that may be deemed unnecessary or inefficient and potentially curtailed.

Departmental secretaries are also expected to present detailed reports outlining operational challenges and implementation hurdles faced in executing various government schemes and infrastructure projects. These presentations are intended to help streamline administrative bottlenecks and improve coordination across departments.
In addition to reviewing current performance, the meeting is expected to contribute to the development of a short-term governance roadmap for the next six months, along with a broader mid-term planning framework spanning two years. The discussions are aimed at shaping priorities for the recently formed administrative setup and strengthening institutional efficiency.
The review comes shortly after directives were issued following the first cabinet meeting on May 11, mandating stricter workplace discipline for state government employees. These include reporting to duty by 10:15 a.m. and not leaving before 5:15 p.m., along with restrictions on leaving the workplace without assigned official duties, as part of efforts to enforce a more structured work culture across departments.
