West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee led a massive protest march in Kolkata on Wednesday, decrying the alleged harassment of Bengali-speaking individuals in states governed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Joined by senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders, including national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, and thousands of supporters, the rally began at College Square around 1:45 PM and proceeded to Dorina Crossing in Dharmatala, covering nearly 3 kilometers.
The protest, heavily secured by around 1,500 police personnel along barricaded routes, disrupted traffic, with multiple arterial roads in central Kolkata diverted. Similar demonstrations were held across district headquarters in West Bengal, amplifying the TMC’s stance.
The rally comes a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to the state.
