Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Wednesday chaired a high-level review meeting at the Delhi Police Headquarters, emphasising the need for a more citizen-centric, preventive and technology-driven policing framework in the national capital. The meeting, attended by the Commissioner of Police and senior officers, focused on operational priorities, public safety, and welfare measures within the force.
This was the Lieutenant Governor’s first visit to the Delhi Police Headquarters, where he underscored the importance of building a policing system that is humane, highly visible and proactive in nature. He stressed that police personnel must remain approachable, empathetic and firm in their conduct, while ensuring transparency and fairness in their day-to-day functioning. According to him, such an approach is essential to strengthening public trust and confidence in law enforcement agencies.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to law and order, the L-G made it clear that maintaining strict control over crime remains a top priority. He categorically stated that the safety and security of women, children and senior citizens is non-negotiable and must be treated with utmost urgency by all levels of the police force. He also called for greater vigilance in identifying and addressing potential threats before they escalate into serious incidents.

During the meeting, the L-G directed officers to adopt a more proactive strategy in policing by identifying potential crime-prone areas and preventing offences before they occur. He specifically instructed officials to pay increased attention to the safety of girl students and vulnerable groups. The focus, he said, should be on pre-empting street crimes through improved intelligence gathering and stronger on-ground presence. To strengthen these preventive measures, Sandhu called for the widespread use of modern technology in policing operations.
He instructed the force to aggressively leverage tools such as artificial intelligence, drones, facial recognition systems and social media monitoring to enhance surveillance and improve crime detection capabilities. According to him, technology-driven policing is essential for staying ahead of emerging and evolving security challenges in a rapidly changing urban environment.
The meeting concluded with a renewed emphasis on integrating community engagement with advanced policing techniques to build a safer and more responsive law enforcement system in Delhi. Officials are expected to further develop implementation strategies based on the directions issued during the review.
