Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Karnataka Legislative Council Opposition Leader Chalavadi Narayanaswamy has expressed confidence that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will continue in office for two more terms. Speaking to reporters in Kolar on Saturday, he said he believed Modi’s leadership record would extend further and projected that India would emerge as the world’s leading economy by 2047.
Narayanaswamy described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the longest-serving leader in India’s democratic history in terms of repeated electoral mandates. He argued that Modi’s tenure stands out because it is based on continuous electoral victories under a constitutional framework, distinguishing it from earlier leadership periods in the country’s political history.
The BJP leader also criticised the Congress party, accusing its leaders of misrepresenting historical facts and misunderstanding India’s democratic evolution. He claimed that Jawaharlal Nehru’s early leadership occurred during a transitional phase after independence and was not comparable to modern electoral mandates, while also referring to the Emergency imposed during Indira Gandhi’s tenure as a deviation from democratic principles.

On governance and policy matters, Narayanaswamy defended the current central administration, stating that the Modi government has maintained transparency and reduced corruption compared to previous regimes. He attributed challenges such as rising cooking gas prices to global geopolitical tensions and referenced earlier subsidy decisions under the UPA government in support of his argument.
He further asserted that India has witnessed significant improvements in infrastructure, including roads and railways, under the present government, and said public awareness about governance has increased in recent years. He also criticised Congress-led welfare verification processes in Karnataka, alleging irregularities in beneficiary lists under state schemes.
Concluding his remarks, Narayanaswamy also responded to recent political controversies in the state, including comments on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the ongoing Dharmasthala issue, asserting that such matters were being misrepresented. He maintained that political discourse should focus on governance and development rather than disputes he described as unnecessary controversies.
