Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday called on citizens to unite against Pakistan-backed terrorism, praising recent street protests as a powerful signal for establishing lasting peace in the Valley. Speaking at a two-day tourism conference at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC), attended by Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Sinha stressed that a peaceful environment is crucial for the region’s booming tourism sector.
“Ordinary citizens are taking a stand against terrorism. Street protests against Pakistan-backed terrorists are a good sign to establish permanent peace,” Sinha said, posting on his official X handle. He urged the people of Jammu and Kashmir to ensure terrorists find no support within society, stating, “Terrorists’ attempts to draw sustenance from society should be foiled.”
Sinha highlighted the remarkable transformation of J-K’s tourism sector under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, noting strengthened traditional circuits and expanded outreach to remote areas. “J-K is an unstoppable force, marching toward peace, progress, and prosperity,” he said, describing the conference as a “befitting reply to terrorism.” In 2024, J-K welcomed over 2.11 crore tourists, a 14% increase from 2023, contributing significantly to the local economy.

While acknowledging the critical role of security forces in curbing terrorism, Sinha emphasized society’s equally vital responsibility in denying terrorists any foothold. Recent protests in districts like Baramulla and Sopore, where locals condemned militant activities, reflect growing public resistance. The LG’s call aligns with ongoing efforts to bolster security and promote J-K as a global tourism destination, ensuring benefits reach every corner of the Union Territory.
