In a fiery press conference, INDIA bloc’s Vice Presidential candidate B Sudershan Reddy accused his rival, NDA nominee C P Radhakrishnan, of staying silent, lamenting the missed opportunity for a robust public debate. Speaking alongside Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Congress leaders, the former Supreme Court judge emphasized his desire for a constructive dialogue to elevate the Vice Presidential election discourse.
“I’m addressing the media daily, but my opponent remains quiet,” Reddy said. “A healthy conversation could have enriched this election.” He clarified that his remarks were not meant to disparage Radhakrishnan but to highlight the need for open engagement in a democratic process. Reddy stressed that a fair exchange of ideas would strengthen the electorate’s understanding of the candidates’ visions.
When asked about the most pressing Constitutional challenge facing India, Reddy pointed to the “deficiencies” in the Election Commission of India’s functioning. “If this continues, our democracy faces serious peril,” he warned, underscoring the critical role of an impartial electoral body in safeguarding India’s democratic fabric. He called for reforms to ensure the Election Commission operates with transparency and independence.

Reddy, whose candidacy is rooted in his extensive experience with Constitutional law, described the Vice Presidential election as a historic moment. “This will be one of the fairest and most decent elections in recent times,” he predicted, emphasizing the importance of a respectful contest. He also highlighted support from non-INDIA bloc parties, such as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), signaling broader political backing.
Reflecting on India’s diverse identity, Reddy remarked, “We are not a majoritarian state. Our multi-lingual, multi-cultural, and multi-religious society thrives under a Constitution that limits power, not grants it.” He positioned the Vice President’s role as a guardian of this principle, ensuring checks and balances in governance.
Reddy’s campaign focuses on upholding Constitutional values and fostering unity in diversity. He urged voters to recognize the Vice President’s role in protecting India’s democratic ethos and promised to bring his judicial experience to the office to promote fairness and inclusivity.
