In a blistering Diwali-eve showdown, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant tore into the Opposition's "Narkasur" taunts against the BJP, declaring that the people—not self-proclaimed "Gods"—will expose the true demons plaguing the state. The fiery exchange erupted after a high-profile opposition huddle in South Goa on Sunday, where Congress Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, Congress MLA Altone D'Costa, Goa Forward Party (GFP) chief Vijai Sardesai, and Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) head Manoj Parab shared the stage at a pre-Diwali event. The gathering fueled intense speculation of a grand anti-BJP alliance for the 2027 assembly elections.
Sawant dismissed the Opposition's mythological jabs with scorn: "If they think we're Narkasur and they're Lord Krishna, they're living in a delusion. Ask them—who's the real demon? The people know BJP's transformative contributions to Goa, from infrastructure boom to cultural preservation. They'll decide who's slaying Goa and who's saving it."
The CM's retort came hours after Sardesai invoked the Narkasur legend, proclaiming, "True Diwali begins only after vanquishing the demon." RGP's Parab amplified the attack: "No one imagined us uniting on one platform. The hour has struck—we must stand together, slay these Narkasurs, and stop our land from being sold to outsiders."Alemao urged unity beyond the assembly walls: "We fight as one inside the House; now it's time to unite outside and reclaim Goa."

Political analysts see this as a calculated escalation. With BJP holding a commanding 28 seats in the 40-member assembly—bolstered by 2 from ally Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party and 3 independents—the opposition's fragmented forces (Congress: 3, AAP: 2, GFP: 1, RGP: 1) are desperately seeking synergy. Sunday's meet signals a potential "Mahagathbandhan" to challenge BJP's iron grip.
Sawant remained unfazed, touting BJP's track record: massive tourism revival post-COVID, eco-friendly mining reforms, and youth empowerment schemes. "Opposition's unity is a photo-op desperation. Goans reject divisive politics," he asserted.
As Diwali lamps flicker across the coastal state, this verbal warfare hints at a brutal 2027 battle. Will the opposition's "slay the demon" mantra resonate, or will voters crown BJP as Goa's true savior? The verdict looms larger than any effigy burning.
