Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis sharply dismissed Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s allegations that the 2024 Maharashtra assembly elections, won decisively by the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance, were “stolen” through collusion with the Election Commission (EC).
Speaking to reporters near Panaji, where he was attending an event as chief guest, Fadnavis mocked Gandhi’s claims, suggesting, “Maybe he should get his brain checked. Either it’s been stolen, or the chip in his brain is missing.”
Gandhi, addressing the media at AICC headquarters in New Delhi, had claimed the Maharashtra results confirmed Congress’ suspicions of electoral fraud, citing the EC’s refusal to provide a machine-readable voter list as evidence of complicity with the BJP. The Mahayuti alliance, comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP, secured a landslide victory in November 2024, clinching 230 of 288 seats. The BJP alone won 132 seats, with allies Shiv Sena and NCP securing 57 and 41, respectively.
In contrast, the Congress-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) faced a crushing defeat, with Congress winning only 16 seats—its worst performance in the state. Sharad Pawar’s NCP (SP) managed 10 seats, and Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) secured 20. The stark contrast in outcomes fueled Gandhi’s allegations, which have sparked heated debates on X, with Mahayuti supporters calling them baseless and MVA backers demanding transparency in voter data.
