Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde has indicated that the political battle over the legacy of Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray may enter a more intense phase, saying that “picture abhi baki hai” (the movie is not over) in reference to Operation Tiger. His remarks have fuelled speculation of further political developments involving the Shiv Sena (UBT) and its leaders.
Shinde’s statement came after his faction’s recent efforts to strengthen its position within the Shiv Sena’s political landscape. The Shinde camp has maintained that the movement represents a continuation of Balasaheb Thackeray’s legacy, while the Uddhav Thackeray-led faction has opposed the split and continued to claim the party’s original identity and ideology.
The phrase “more breaking news” used by Shinde has been viewed by political observers as a signal that further shifts could take place. The Shinde faction had earlier secured the support of a majority of Shiv Sena Lok Sabha MPs, helping it strengthen its legal and political position under provisions related to anti-defection rules. The developments have intensified the rivalry between the two factions.

Political analysts believe that the message is aimed not only at Opposition leaders but also at Shiv Sena (UBT) legislators, local leaders, and municipal representatives, particularly in areas such as Mumbai, Thane, and Marathwada. The Shinde camp’s strategy appears focused on projecting itself as the stronger political force capable of attracting more leaders and expanding its organisational network.
Within the ruling Mahayuti alliance, Shinde’s continued political manoeuvring also plays a role in strengthening his bargaining position ahead of future electoral and organisational decisions. By highlighting the expansion of his faction, Shinde is seeking to reinforce the argument that his group represents a broader political realignment rather than a one-time split within the Shiv Sena.
However, political observers have also pointed to challenges associated with prolonged political defections. Absorbing a large number of leaders can create internal competition over positions and responsibilities, while frequent political shifts may lead to voter fatigue. The long-term impact of Operation Tiger will depend on whether the Shinde faction can convert leadership-level changes into sustained support among grassroots voters.
