Senior DMK leader Kanimozhi fiercely criticized the BJP for allegedly weaponizing central agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to target opposition parties, following ED raids on Tamil Nadu Minister I Periyasamy and his MLA-son IP Senthilkumar in Chennai and Dindigul. The searches, part of a money laundering probe linked to a ₹2.1 crore disproportionate assets case, have sparked outrage within the DMK, with Kanimozhi vowing that the party will not be intimidated.
Speaking to reporters in Tuticorin, Kanimozhi alleged, “The BJP is using agencies like the ED, IT, and CBI as weapons against the opposition. They’re attacking democracy through measures like SIR in Bihar and now targeting our senior ministers. The DMK will face this head-on.” She praised Periyasamy’s resilience, stating, “The minister has overcome many challenges and stood firm with DMK. No intimidation will shake our leaders or workers.”
The ED’s investigation stems from an April 2025 Madras High Court order directing a special court in Dindigul to frame charges against Periyasamy and his family for allegedly amassing ₹2.1 crore in wealth disproportionate to their known income sources between 2006 and 2010. The court also mandated a daily trial to conclude within six months, following a challenge by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) against an earlier discharge of the family.

The DMK faces mounting pressure, with other senior leaders like K Ponmudy and V Senthil Balaji also under ED scrutiny for separate cases involving illegal sand mining and a cash-for-jobs scam, respectively. Kanimozhi’s remarks underscore the party’s resolve to resist what it calls politically motivated attacks, rallying its base to stand united against central agency actions.
