In a striking display of dissent, Congress MLAs, led by Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar, played flutes outside the Madhya Pradesh assembly to protest the BJP government’s alleged insensitivity to public issues. The symbolic act, inspired by the Hindi saying “playing the flute in front of a buffalo,” aimed to underscore the government’s unresponsiveness to critical concerns like unemployment, farmers’ rights, and unfulfilled promises.
Singhar criticized the BJP for its “buffalo-like” inaction, accusing it of ignoring soaring inflation, youth unemployment, farmers’ struggles, and the unimplemented 27% OBC reservation. “The government is neither listening nor acting on public interest,” he told reporters, highlighting the failure to deliver Rs 3,000 monthly aid to women under the Laadli Behna scheme. Congress MLA Sachin Yadav added that the flute protest was meant to “wake up the sleeping government” that remains indifferent to people’s plight.
The demonstration follows Monday’s protest, where Congress displayed chameleon replicas to accuse the government of flip-flopping on issues like OBC reservation and caste-based census transparency. The flute protest, held before the assembly session began, has drawn attention to the opposition’s escalating efforts to pressure the BJP into addressing pressing public concerns.
