Congress MLA Komatireddy Raj Gopal Reddy publicly criticized Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Saturday for claiming he would remain in office for 10 years, from December 2023 to 2034. The Munugode legislator, brother of state Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, called the statement a violation of Congress’s democratic principles, marking the first open dissent against the CM since the party’s 2023 rise to power.
In a post on X, Raj Gopal Reddy stated, “In Congress, a national party, a Chief Minister is elected democratically as per the high command’s directives. Pure Congress leaders and activists won’t tolerate attempts to turn Telangana Congress into a personal empire.” The remarks were in response to Revanth Reddy’s confident assertion during a public meeting in Kollapur, Nagarkurnool, on Friday, where he predicted a decade-long tenure, citing his government’s achievements like the farm loan waiver for 22 lakh farmers, costing ₹17,369 crore.
The public spat highlights underlying tensions within the Telangana Congress, with some leaders reportedly uneasy about Revanth Reddy’s assertive leadership style. Political analysts suggest this could signal factionalism ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, especially as the Congress high command in Delhi has remained silent on the issue.
