The Congress marked the third anniversary of the Bharat Jodo Yatra's launch on Sunday, describing it as a transformative milestone in India's political landscape that continues to echo amid ongoing debates on unity and governance. Initiated on September 7, 2022, from Kanyakumari with visits to iconic sites like the Swami Vivekananda Rock Memorial, the yatra aimed to spotlight widening economic inequalities, deepening social polarisation, and rising political authoritarianism—issues that revitalised the party's image and fostered opposition alliances, as per political observers.
Led by Rahul Gandhi and over 200 participants, the 145-day padyatra spanned 4,000 km across 12 states and two Union Territories, from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. Gandhi engaged in 12 public meetings, over 100 street corner gatherings, 13 press conferences, and more than 375 interactions, drawing widespread attention and participation from diverse groups.
The march attracted celebrities like Kamal Haasan, Pooja Bhatt, and Amol Palekar; military veterans, including former Army chief Gen. (Retd.) Deepak Kapoor; economists, such as ex-RBI governor Raghuram Rajan; and opposition leaders like Farooq Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti, and Aaditya Thackeray. This cross-section involvement highlighted its broad appeal and role in bridging societal divides.
