The Congress party on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Centre, alleging that a “broken country” has been turned into a “broker country” under what it described as the leadership of a “self-styled Vishwaguru.” The remarks were made by senior Congress leaders as part of a broader political critique of the Union government’s foreign policy and economic direction. The party accused the Centre of weakening India’s global standing while prioritising optics over substantive diplomacy and domestic stability.
In its statement, Congress alleged that India’s external engagements have become inconsistent, arguing that recent geopolitical developments have exposed vulnerabilities in the country’s strategic positioning. The party also claimed that economic challenges at home, including inflation and employment concerns, have compounded the perception of instability.
The criticism comes amid heightened global tensions, particularly in West Asia, where disruptions in energy supply chains and maritime routes have had ripple effects on economies worldwide. Congress leaders suggested that India’s handling of such challenges reflects a lack of coherent long-term strategy.
The ruling establishment has not immediately responded to the remarks, though government officials in the past have defended India’s foreign policy as pragmatic and balanced, aimed at safeguarding national interests in a complex geopolitical environment.

Political analysts note that such exchanges are part of ongoing contestation between the government and opposition, especially ahead of key electoral cycles. Issues of foreign policy, economic management, and global positioning are increasingly becoming central to political discourse.
The development underscores the intensifying political narrative battle, with opposition parties seeking to challenge the government’s claims of strong global leadership, while the Centre continues to project India’s rising influence on the world stage.
