Tensions escalated in Bihar’s capital as the Congress accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating a violent attack and vandalism at its Sadaqat Ashram headquarters in Patna. The clash erupted on Friday during a BJP protest march against alleged derogatory remarks made about Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Congress-led 'Voter Adhikar Yatra'.
Former Congress president and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, condemned the incident, asserting the supremacy of truth and non-violence. “Falsehood and violence cannot stand before truth and non-violence. Beat and break as much as you want—we will continue to protect truth and the Constitution. Satyameva Jayate,” Gandhi declared in a fiery Hindi post on X.
The confrontation stemmed from a controversial video allegedly showing a speaker using abusive language against Modi during the Yatra in Darbhanga. The march, which saw Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Vadra, and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav riding motorcycles to Muzaffarpur, has gained significant traction, prompting the BJP’s protest. Congress general secretary K C Venugopal accused the BJP of resorting to “hooliganism” out of fear of the Yatra’s rising popularity and public discontent.

“Baffled by the overwhelming support for the Voter Adhikar Yatra, the BJP has unleashed its goons to intimidate us,” Venugopal posted on X. He alleged that a sitting BJP cabinet minister and other party leaders led the attack on the Congress office, describing it as an act of “cowardice.” Venugopal claimed the BJP’s actions reflect their desperation amid growing public anger in Bihar and their looming political decline.
The Congress labeled the attack as “political hooliganism” and an assault on democratic values. “Such violence has no place in a democracy. The BJP’s vandalism exposes its true character,” Venugopal said, calling for nationwide protests against the incident. He urged the Bihar Police to take “strict and exemplary action” against the perpetrators, including the arrest of the implicated ministers and BJP leaders.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with the Congress rallying citizens to stand united against what they call a “brazen act” of aggression. As the controversy deepens, it underscores the intensifying political rivalry in Bihar, with the Congress vowing to continue its campaign to expose alleged electoral malpractices, undeterred by the violence.
