In a strict enforcement move, the Himachal Pradesh government has dismissed 11 police personnel found involved in trafficking ‘chitta’ (synthetic drugs), citing violations under the NDPS Act. The action follows the state’s zero-tolerance policy against drugs, with dismissals carried out under Article 311(2)(b) of the Constitution.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu emphasized that police personnel must lead the fight against drugs, warning that any officer found engaged in illegal activities will face stringent action. “No one is above the law, and those promoting chitta trade will not be spared, regardless of rank,” he said during a high-level meeting in Shimla.
The dismissed officers include personnel from various units, such as the Indian Reserve Battalions, State CID, SDRF, and district police divisions. Names include Inspector Neeraj Kumar, Constables Shubham Thakur, Kapil, Shiv Kumar, and several others, all implicated in NDPS-related cases.

The Chief Minister directed all government departments to submit detailed reports of employees involved in drug trafficking, including properties acquired through illicit means, to the Chief Secretary. This is part of a broader effort to track and dismantle internal networks supporting drug syndicates.
The state government has also activated the emergency helpline 112 for reporting chitta-related activities and announced cash rewards for informers, ranging from Rs 10,000 for small seizures to over Rs 10 lakh for major busts. Rewards exceeding Rs 5 lakh are offered for information leading to dismantling large drug syndicates.
Director General of Police Ashok Tiwari presented a detailed account of departmental actions against chitta, highlighting intensified operations. The initiative saw participation from senior officials, including Rural Development Minister Anirudh Singh and Chief Secretary Sanjay Gupta, underscoring Himachal Pradesh’s commitment to eradicating synthetic drug trade.
