Telangana’s new BJP state president, N Ramchander Rao, who took charge on July 1, unveiled an ambitious strategy on Friday to bolster the party’s presence in weaker districts like Nalgonda, Khammam, and Warangal, while consolidating strongholds in Karimnagar, Nizamabad, and Hyderabad.
Rao, a former ABVP veteran succeeding Union Minister G Kishan Reddy, emphasized grassroots growth, focusing on booth-level organization and farmers’ issues to prepare for upcoming local body polls. “We’re contesting as many seats as possible, addressing rural and urban concerns,” Rao told PTI, expressing confidence in public support after recent wins of two MLC seats and eight Lok Sabha seats [in 2024].
He dismissed the resignation of MLA Raja Singh as insignificant, stating, “No individual is above our cadre and ideology.” Rao also criticized the Congress government’s 42% BC reservation as political posturing, opposing Muslim inclusion in the BC category. He rejected claims of a BJP-BRS merger, questioning the credibility of BRS MLC K Kavitha’s comments.
With people disillusioned by Congress “‘unfulfilled promises’” and BRS’s failures, Rao sees BJP as Telangana’s alternative, aiming for a strong showing in local and 2028 assembly elections.
