Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal, asserting that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would end what he described as “rule of hooligans” in the state if it comes to power after the upcoming Assembly elections. He made the remarks while addressing a campaign rally in Sainthia in Birbhum district.
Singh alleged that West Bengal had witnessed a deterioration in law and order and claimed that opportunities for industrial investment had been lost over the years. He said that there was once significant investor interest in the state, but argued that conditions had worsened. According to him, the BJP is committed to restoring development and eliminating what he called a “reign of fear and terror” if voted into office.
The Defence Minister further accused the Trinamool Congress of allowing corruption to become widespread over its 15-year tenure in the state. He told supporters that voters would have to decide whether they wanted the current situation to continue or opt for change. Singh added that if the BJP formed the government, those responsible for creating unrest would either face imprisonment or be forced to leave such activities behind.

Rajnath Singh also raised the issue of women’s reservation in legislatures, alleging that opposition parties, including the Trinamool Congress, Congress, Samajwadi Party, and DMK, had opposed related legislative efforts in Parliament. He claimed that women voters in West Bengal would respond strongly in the elections in favour of the BJP due to this stance.
During his speech, Singh expressed confidence that the BJP would secure a majority in the state, stating that his interactions during the campaign suggested growing public support for a change in governance. He argued that West Bengal had lagged behind other states in development and cited a decline in its contribution to India’s economy over the years.
The Defence Minister concluded by reiterating that West Bengal required urgent transformation, asserting that the state had already given sufficient time to the current administration and that voters would now decide on a new direction in the upcoming elections.
