Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Singh Surjewala delivered a sharp critique on Tuesday, alleging that the Bharatiya Janata Party has deliberately distorted the sacred national slogan "Vande Mataram"—traditionally a powerful expression of reverence and patriotism toward the motherland—into a tool for spreading hatred and fostering communal discord across society.
Surjewala accused the BJP of systematically implementing a divisive political strategy in Haryana, where the party has consistently engineered conflicts between various communities through targeted campaigns designed to exploit existing fault lines and create new ones for electoral advantage over multiple election cycles.
He elaborated on the multiple layers of fragmentation inflicted upon the state, citing persistent divisions such as Jat versus non-Jat antagonisms, Punjabi versus Aggarwal rivalries, splits among Scheduled Caste groups like Ravidasia versus Valmiki, escalating tensions between Sikh and Hindu populations, and calculated efforts to alienate Brahmins from economically backward sections within the same broader community.

The Congress leader specifically highlighted the BJP's role in intensifying polarization in the Mewat region, where deliberate attempts to widen the gulf between Hindu and Muslim residents have resulted in heightened communal strains, undermining long-standing traditions of coexistence and mutual respect in the area.
Surjewala expressed grave concern over the pervasive spread of hatred reaching even spiritually significant locations like Kaithal-Kapisthal—revered as the sacred land linked to Lord Krishna's profound teachings in the Bhagavad Gita—where citizens now endure verbal abuse and are stigmatized as outsiders; he issued a passionate appeal to Haryana's youth, farmers, and citizens to confront those responsible for cultivating this "crop of hatred" in a state celebrated for its agricultural contributions to the nation, calling for an end to passive silence, a unified rejection of divisive forces, and a resolute embrace of the eternal values of love, duty, righteousness, and collective conscience as the ultimate bulwark when institutional mechanisms appear inadequate against rising intolerance.
