The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, likening his anti-corruption rhetoric to “a thief donning the role of a watchman.” BJP spokesperson Syed Zafar Islam criticized Gandhi for claiming that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma would face jail time for graft if Congress wins the 2026 Assam assembly polls. Islam highlighted Gandhi’s own involvement in the National Herald case, noting he is out on bail.
“Gandhi considers himself a king, but voters have rejected his corruption-driven model three times,” Islam said, defending Sarma’s governance and popularity in Assam. He accused Gandhi and other INDIA bloc leaders, like RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, of sowing chaos by questioning the Election Commission’s voter roll revisions in Bihar and now targeting Assam.
Islam also slammed Congress-ruled states like Karnataka and Telangana for failing to deliver on promises, while praising Bihar CM Nitish Kumar’s free electricity initiative as a model of responsive governance.
