A political controversy has erupted in Madhya Pradesh after Congress leader Meenakshi Natarajan’s Rajya Sabha nomination was rejected, triggering sharp exchanges between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Congress. The development has also resulted in all three BJP candidates from the state securing unopposed entry to the Upper House.
The rejection of Natarajan’s nomination has drawn strong criticism from the Congress, which alleged political interference and accused the BJP of undermining democratic processes. Natarajan, who was the party’s sole nominee for the Rajya Sabha seat from Madhya Pradesh, said the decision reflected an attempt to “trample the Constitution and democracy.”
Amid the controversy, Madhya Pradesh Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya made a fresh claim suggesting internal Congress involvement in the matter. He alleged that documents highlighting errors in Natarajan’s nomination papers had originated from Telangana, where the Congress is in power, implying that the information may have been shared by members within the party itself.

“After all, who gave us the papers? They came from Telangana, where their government is in power. It must have been Congress people themselves who gave us the information,” Vijayvargiya said on Tuesday, escalating the political war of words between the two parties.
The incident has intensified the political battle between the BJP and Congress in Madhya Pradesh, particularly over Rajya Sabha nominations, which are often determined through legislative strength rather than direct elections. With the rejection of the Congress candidate’s nomination, the BJP has effectively secured all available seats from the state, further strengthening its position in the Upper House.
Congress leaders, meanwhile, continue to question the circumstances surrounding the nomination’s cancellation and have demanded greater transparency from the Election Commission, setting the stage for further political confrontation in the coming days.
