Allegations of electronic voting machine (EVM) irregularities have surfaced during the ongoing West Bengal Assembly elections, with the Bharatiya Janata Party claiming tampering in certain polling booths, while the Election Commission of India (ECI) has indicated that repolling may be conducted if required after verification.
The BJP has alleged that voters in select booths were unable to cast votes properly or that machines showed irregular functioning during polling. Party leaders have demanded immediate investigation, claiming that such incidents could compromise the integrity of the electoral process in sensitive constituencies.
In response, the Election Commission has stated that it is reviewing all complaints received through official channels. Polling officials have been instructed to document and verify each reported malfunction, with standard protocols in place to determine whether technical faults or procedural errors occurred during voting.

Preliminary assessments suggest that in cases where EVM malfunction is confirmed, repolling at affected booths may be recommended. The EC has reiterated that it follows a strict framework to ensure free and fair elections, including safeguards for machine testing, sealing procedures, and post-poll audits.
The allegations come amid a high-stakes electoral environment in West Bengal, where competition between major political parties has intensified. Previous phases of polling have also witnessed sporadic disputes and claims of irregularities, prompting increased scrutiny of electoral processes.
As investigations continue, authorities have urged voters to rely on verified information and assured that any confirmed technical issues will be addressed in accordance with election rules. The final decision on repolling will depend on the outcome of detailed technical and administrative reviews conducted by election officials.
