The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unleashed a scathing attack on the Congress party Sunday, accusing it of siding with India's enemies by raising unverified claims about Russia supplying fighter jet engines to Pakistan. The BJP also slammed Congress for alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s economic policies are fueling a dangerous concentration of wealth, threatening the very soul of Indian democracy.
The firestorm began when Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh posted on X, questioning why Russia, once India's closest strategic ally, was reportedly providing RD-93MA engines for Pakistan’s Chinese-made JF-17 Thunder Block III fighter jets. Labeling it a failure of Modi’s “personalized diplomacy,” Ramesh argued that high-profile summits have yielded little substance, undermining India’s efforts to diplomatically isolate Pakistan while raising doubts about Russia’s reliability as an ally, especially amid ongoing defense deals like the S-400 missile systems.
BJP’s IT head Amit Malviya hit back, calling the claims “reckless information warfare.” He dismissed the reports as baseless, originating from an obscure outlet known for pro-Pakistan narratives, with no official confirmation from Russia. Malviya accused Ramesh of peddling unverified stories to score political points, choosing “the enemy’s side” over national interest. Social media exploded, with BJP supporters branding Congress as “anti-India,” while Congress defenders insisted the questions were valid scrutiny of foreign policy missteps. One X user quipped, “Russia denied the engine deal. What’s Congress fishing for?”

Shifting gears, Congress intensified its attack on domestic issues, with Ramesh highlighting India’s growing wealth gap. He cited data showing 1,687 individuals now hold nearly half of India’s wealth—roughly Rs 167 lakh crore, equivalent to half the nation’s GDP. With 284 new billionaires added last year, India is minting a billionaire weekly, while the ultra-rich grow wealthier by Rs 1,991 crore daily. Ramesh blamed Modi’s policies for favoring a handful of industrialists, creating vast inequality and social unrest. He warned that such disparities, seen in other nations, fuel political chaos when combined with weakened democratic institutions.
Ramesh further criticized the government for strangling the MSME sector, India’s economic backbone, through flawed domestic and foreign policies. He pointed to soaring inflation, declining savings, and rising debt burdens on ordinary citizens. Investment in education and health is shrinking, and social security schemes like MGNREGA face wage delays, leaving millions vulnerable. “This extreme wealth concentration isn’t just an economic issue—it’s a direct attack on democracy’s core,” Ramesh said, arguing that concentrated economic power distorts political decisions, sidelining millions from development and democratic processes.
The BJP countered that Congress’s rhetoric is a desperate attempt to deflect from its own failures, emphasizing that Modi’s policies have driven economic growth and global influence. The clash has ignited fierce debates online, with X users divided over whether Congress’s critiques expose real issues or undermine national unity for political gain. As tensions escalate, the nation watches closely to see how this war of words shapes the political landscape ahead.
