Heavy security was deployed across the Mokama Assembly constituency in Bihar following the shocking murder of Dular Chand Yadav, a prominent gangster-turned-politician and supporter of the Jan Suraaj Party, on October 30, 2025. Yadav was campaigning for his nephew, Jan Suraaj candidate Piyush Priyadarshi, when he was allegedly shot and then run over by a vehicle in Basavanchak village. His death has sparked intense political turmoil in this highly contested seat, which will vote in the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections on November 6.
Mokama has long been a hotbed of political rivalry, with Janata Dal (United) candidate Anant Singh, a strongman since 2005, facing off against Rashtriya Janata Dal’s Veena Devi and Jan Suraaj’s Priyadarshi. Supporters of Jan Suraaj alleged that Anant Singh’s convoy attacked their group with sticks and rods, smashing vehicle windows and triggering the violence that led to Yadav’s death. Anant Singh has denied the allegations, instead accusing former MP Surajbhan Singh of orchestrating the attack and leveraging Dular Chand for political gains.
Following the incident, Yadav’s supporters gathered at the site, leading to clashes marked by stone-pelting and firing incidents. The atmosphere remains tense, with police deploying heavy forces to prevent further violence. The body was taken to Barh for postmortem under tight security, with preliminary investigations revealing no upper-body firearm injuries, prompting questions around the exact cause of death.

Opposition leaders have condemned the killing, blaming the state government for failing to maintain law and order during the crucial election period. Tejashwi Yadav, leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal, described the incident as evidence of rampant criminalization and the dangerous nexus between politics and muscle power. Demands for a thorough probe and arrests of those responsible, including calls for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry, continue to grow.
As Mokama braces for first-phase voting, the murder underscores the volatile electoral climate in Bihar, where political rivalries often turn deadly. The incident threatens to derail peaceful polling and casts a shadow over the democratic process in a constituency notorious for its history of muscle politics and violence. Authorities face immense pressure to restore calm and ensure free and fair elections amid heightened public anxiety.
