The Congress party has expelled three senior leaders in Bihar for a period of six years over allegations of indiscipline and anti-party activities, in a move that underscores the state leadership’s attempt to tighten organisational control ahead of a planned restructuring exercise. The expelled leaders have been identified as Rashid Fakhri, Onkar Shakti, and Chandan Singh. According to party sources, the disciplinary action was taken after repeated instances of alleged anti-organisation conduct, including public statements and criticism directed against the state leadership. The decision is being seen as one of the strongest internal actions taken by the Bihar Congress unit in recent times.
Party insiders said the leaders were accused of openly commenting against the functioning of the state leadership, which was viewed as damaging to internal cohesion. The disciplinary committee also reportedly examined their broader conduct within the party structure before recommending expulsion. The action reflects growing concerns within the organisation about maintaining discipline and preventing factional disputes from spilling into the public domain.
Sources further claimed that serious misconduct towards senior Congress leader Shakeel Ahmed also played a role in the decision. While specific details of the alleged incidents were not officially disclosed, party leaders suggested that the behaviour was considered inconsistent with organisational norms and discipline. A senior state Congress functionary stated that the party would not tolerate actions that undermine senior leadership or weaken internal unity.

The move is also being interpreted as part of a wider effort to streamline internal functioning and reduce factional tensions that have periodically affected the state unit.
Political observers note that the decision could have implications beyond immediate disciplinary enforcement. Some analysts believe the expulsions may signal the beginning of a broader organisational overhaul within the Bihar Congress, especially as the party prepares to strengthen its structure at the grassroots level. The timing of the action is seen as significant, given ongoing efforts to consolidate leadership control and prepare for upcoming electoral challenges in the state.

According to him, internal coordination and disciplined functioning are essential for rebuilding the party’s presence and effectiveness in the state.
