Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Wednesday strongly refuted Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s allegation that the rights of Hindus are being systematically taken away in the state. Addressing a government function in Dindigul, Stalin said the accusation was completely false and inappropriate for someone holding a constitutional position. He asserted that such statements undermine harmony and distort the reality of Tamil Nadu.
Stalin emphasized that his government respects all religions equally and is committed to protecting the religious rights of every citizen. He said Tamil Nadu has long been a state where people of different faiths coexist peacefully. According to him, attempts to portray the state as hostile to any particular religion are driven by political motives rather than facts.
Calling out what he described as a divisive mindset, Stalin said such narratives have never succeeded in Tamil Nadu and never will. “As long as this Stalin is here, it will absolutely not happen,” he said, asserting that communal politics would not be allowed to disrupt social harmony. He added that Tamil Nadu’s history and culture stand firmly against religious polarisation.

The chief minister’s remarks were in response to statements made by Amit Shah at a public meeting in Pudukottai on Sunday. Shah had accused the ruling DMK of repeatedly disrespecting Hinduism and hurting the sentiments of Hindus in the state. He alleged that the Stalin government had committed “atrocities” against Hindus.
Shah further claimed that Hindu forms of worship were being insulted and that religious processions and idol immersion ceremonies had been restricted. He also alleged that an “unannounced curfew” was imposed in Tamil Nadu during the Ayodhya Ram Temple bhoomi puja. Additionally, he criticised senior DMK leaders for making derogatory remarks about Sanatan Dharma.
Rejecting these charges, Stalin said the accusations were aimed at creating division and provoking unrest. He reiterated that Tamil Nadu’s governance model is rooted in constitutional values, social justice, and secularism. The DMK leader concluded by stating that the state would continue to uphold religious freedom while firmly opposing any attempts to incite communal tension.
