Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday expressed confidence that the Samajwadi Party will return to power in Uttar Pradesh after the 2027 Assembly elections, asserting that the opposition alliance will remain united. Speaking to reporters in Rewari, Yadav said that his party is likely to contest the polls in partnership with the Indian National Congress as part of the broader INDIA bloc. He emphasised that seat-sharing arrangements would be based on “winnability” rather than the number of seats allocated to each party.
Yadav also targeted the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, claiming that it is likely to face defeats in ongoing Assembly elections across several states, including West Bengal. He argued that electoral setbacks in Parliament would reflect in state-level results as well, stating that political momentum is shifting in favour of the opposition. His remarks come amid heightened political activity across states, where multiple parties are positioning themselves ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
Earlier in the day, while addressing party workers at the Samajwadi Party headquarters in Lucknow, Yadav criticised the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), alleging that it has lost the moral authority to govern at the Centre. He pointed to the government’s failure to pass a constitutional amendment related to women’s reservation in the Lok Sabha as an indication that it no longer reflects the will of the people. Yadav further accused the BJP of being "anti-women", challenging its claims of supporting gender empowerment.

Responding to additional questions, Yadav reiterated his support for the formation of an Ahir regiment in the Indian Army and suggested the creation of a Gujarat regiment to encourage greater participation from the state. He argued that such initiatives could motivate more youth to join the armed forces and contribute to national service. His remarks underline key political and social issues that are likely to shape campaign narratives as parties begin preparing for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
