Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday lauded the Rajasthan government’s decision to adopt the ‘1090’ women’s safety helpline, an initiative pioneered during his tenure as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister. In a post on X, Yadav expressed optimism that the helpline would bolster women’s security in Rajasthan, replicating its success in UP.
Launched under the SP government, the ‘1090’ helpline was designed to provide swift assistance to women facing harassment or distress, offering a model of immediate response and support. “The ‘1090’ model, dedicated to women’s safety, was launched in Uttar Pradesh under the SP government’s rule. Now, the Rajasthan government is implementing it. Hopefully, this will create a strong and effective mechanism for women’s security there,” Yadav wrote.
He underscored the initiative’s alignment with the SP’s broader commitment to empowering women, a key focus of his PDA (Pichhde, Dalit, Alpsankhyak) framework, coined during the 2022 UP assembly polls to champion backward classes, Dalits, and minorities. Yadav highlighted that his government introduced multiple measures to instill confidence and security among women and girls, viewing such efforts as foundational to positive politics.
“Positive work inspires positive politics. The biggest achievement of SP’s initiatives dedicated to society is this,” he remarked, adding a celebratory note: “SP’s work, in Rajasthan’s name!” The adoption of ‘1090’ in Rajasthan marks a rare instance of a UP-born policy crossing state lines, amplifying Yadav’s legacy in women’s safety advocacy.
