Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Jarnail Singh accused the BJP-led Delhi government of “trampling democracy” by conducting “arbitrary” shop sealing in Tilak Nagar market without due process. Speaking at a press conference, Singh alleged that the revenue department sealed a shop on Tuesday without issuing a prior show-cause notice, violating natural justice principles.
Singh recounted receiving a call from shopkeepers around 4 pm, reporting that a team led by the Patel Nagar sub-divisional magistrate, accompanied by police, began sealing a shop over a temporary counter deemed an encroachment. “In my four terms as MLA, I’ve never seen such lawlessness,” he stated, warning that even minor items like a chair outside a shop could trigger sealing under this approach.
The AAP leader criticized Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s silence, demanding clarity on her government’s policy toward traders. Singh claimed the sealing was halted after strong resistance from the market community, but alleged police later issued a backdated notice at 10:30 pm to justify the action, citing video evidence. Similar notices have reportedly targeted other markets, including Rajouri Garden, with accusations of selective enforcement.

Calling it “vendetta politics,” Singh demanded an immediate stop to such “illegal” actions, vowing AAP’s continued resistance. He argued that the BJP’s “four-engine” government has failed Delhi’s people, who now regret choosing it over Arvind Kejriwal’s administration. No response was immediately available from the BJP or the city government.
