The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has officially distanced itself from the INDIA bloc, with Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh declaring the party is no longer part of the opposition alliance. The announcement comes ahead of an online meeting of INDIA bloc leaders scheduled for Saturday to discuss the political situation before the Monsoon session of Parliament, starting Monday.
Singh emphasized AAP’s independent stance, stating, “The INDIA bloc was for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. We fought Delhi and Haryana Assembly polls alone, and we’ll contest Bihar solo. AAP is not part of INDIA.” He highlighted AAP’s role as a robust opposition, vowing to raise issues forcefully in the Lok Sabha. AAP had allied with Congress for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Delhi and Haryana but contested recent bypolls in Punjab and Gujarat independently.
Criticizing Congress, the largest party in the INDIA bloc, Singh questioned its leadership, asking, “Did they hold any meeting after the Lok Sabha polls? Did they try to expand the bloc?” He accused Congress of undermining allies like Akhilesh Yadav, Uddhav Thackeray, and Mamata Banerjee, failing to foster opposition unity.

AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal echoed this sentiment earlier, alleging Congress was used by the BJP to cut AAP’s votes in the Visavadar Assembly bypoll in Gujarat. “The INDIA bloc was only for the Lok Sabha polls. Now, there is no alliance from our side,” Kejriwal had stated.
Singh reaffirmed AAP’s commitment to opposing the ruling BJP independently, dismissing the INDIA bloc’s relevance. As the opposition alliance prepares for its first major meeting since the Lok Sabha elections, AAP’s exit signals growing fractures within the coalition.
