The Aam Aadmi Party has launched a scathing attack on the Union government, alleging that dozens of Indian citizens have been deceived, forcibly enlisted into the Russian Army, and deployed to the perilous Ukraine frontlines while New Delhi remains unresponsive to repeated rescue pleas from the men and their distraught families across the country.
In a widely circulated compilation video released by the party, a visibly terrified Indian youth dressed in Russian military uniform recounts how he and five companions were lured to Russia by unscrupulous travel agents with promises of lucrative civilian employment and security jobs, only to be confined, threatened, and compelled to sign one-year military contracts under duress. He explicitly warns that any refusal to proceed to the active war zone would invite severe punishment or worse.
Family members featured in the same footage break down while describing months of complete silence from their sons and brothers who vanished after reaching Russia. Mothers and wives are seen appealing directly to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Ministry of External Affairs to intervene before their loved ones are sent into combat, highlighting a growing sense of abandonment by the Indian state.

The Ministry of External Affairs had acknowledged on November 7 that at least 44 Indians remain part of the Russian armed forces despite repeated public warnings about the life-threatening nature of such recruitment offers. Earlier parliamentary disclosures revealed that 127 Indians had joined the Russian military since the Ukraine conflict began, of whom 98 were discharged after sustained high-level diplomatic pressure; yet a significant number are still listed as either in active service or missing in action.
With opposition parties amplifying the human tragedy and demanding urgent accountability, the continuing plight of these coerced recruits has exposed the vulnerability of Indian job-seekers to sophisticated international trafficking networks operating under the guise of employment agencies, raising serious questions about the speed and effectiveness of India’s consular protection mechanism in conflict zones.
