Samajwadi Party (SP) Maharashtra chief Abu Azmi leveled serious accusations against the Election Commission of India (ECI), alleging deliberate bias toward the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and widespread manipulation of voter lists in the state. Speaking to reporters in Mumbai, Azmi claimed that valid voters’ names in the Mankhurd-Shivaji Nagar assembly constituency were inexplicably removed and replaced with non-residents’ names just six months before the 2024 Maharashtra elections.
Azmi demanded an immediate audit of the voter rolls to address discrepancies and restore trust in the electoral process. He pointed to the 2024 election results, citing the defeats of prominent Congress leaders, including former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and veteran Balasaheb Thorat, as evidence of foul play. “The losses of key opposition figures reflect clear wrongdoing,” Azmi asserted, urging citizens to protest against the ECI’s alleged misconduct.
The SP leader emphasized the need for accountability to safeguard Maharashtra’s democratic integrity, calling for swift corrective measures to prevent further erosion of public confidence in the electoral system. His allegations have sparked renewed scrutiny of the ECI’s processes as the state grapples with ensuring fair and transparent elections.
