The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is reportedly working on a new communication strategy aimed at strengthening its engagement with Generation Z following the nationwide student protests over the alleged NEET paper leak. According to party sources, the BJP plans to shift from one-way messaging to a more interactive, two-way dialogue with young people by expanding its presence on emerging social media platforms. The move is intended to improve communication with the youth and address concerns more effectively.
Party leaders believe the recent student protests highlighted a communication gap between the government and young citizens. According to sources, many students sought greater accountability and broader systemic reforms rather than limited administrative action. The BJP is said to have concluded that traditional platforms such as X and Facebook are no longer sufficient to effectively connect with younger audiences, prompting a review of its digital outreach strategy.
As part of the proposed changes, the party is considering increasing its activity on platforms such as Instagram, Snapchat and Reddit. Sources indicated that dedicated teams of young volunteers may be formed at the district level to communicate government initiatives and party programmes in a manner that resonates with their peers. Party leaders believe younger communicators are better placed to engage with Gen Z by using relatable language, content formats and digital trends.

The BJP is also reportedly looking to revamp its existing social media ecosystem by recruiting more young professionals and adopting content formats that are popular among younger users, including short videos, reels and visually engaging graphics. Party leaders cited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's use of selfie-style Instagram videos during a recent student agitation as an example of adapting communication methods to suit the preferences of younger audiences. Ministers have also reportedly been encouraged to increase their engagement on Instagram and adopt a more interactive approach.
According to party sources, the communication overhaul is also aimed at presenting government policies and achievements in a simpler and more engaging manner. Initiatives such as India's free trade agreements and other policy decisions could be explained through Instagram Reels, infographics and digital placards instead of relying solely on detailed statistics. The BJP believes a stronger and more responsive communication mechanism will help it better address issues affecting young people and prevent future disconnects similar to those witnessed during the NEET controversy.
