The YSR Congress Party has urged the Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission to convene an all-party meeting before issuing the notification for the upcoming local body elections. In a representation submitted to the commission, YSRCP state general secretary and MLC Lella Appi Reddy sought clarity on several aspects of the electoral process. The party said consultations were necessary to address concerns of political parties, candidates and voters before the polls begin.
The YSRCP has raised concerns over delays in issuing caste and community certificates as well as No-Dues and No-Objection certificates. Appi Reddy attributed the delays to reported problems with the statewide server system and sought an inquiry into the functioning of senior officials of the Grama Sachivalayam and Ward Secretariat system. He also asked the Election Commission to issue directions to district authorities to ensure that the required documents are provided without delay.
The party has also sought a review of ward delimitation before the boundaries are finalised. It requested the deployment of Central Armed Police Forces during the elections, citing concerns over alleged interference, intimidation and possible misuse of official machinery. For municipal elections, the YSRCP has asked that ward-wise electoral rolls be prepared only after the Special Intensive Revision process is completed and final rolls are published, subject to court directions.

The proposed all-party meeting, according to the YSRCP, should also clarify reservation and rotation of seats and offices, the election schedule and phasing, nomination and scrutiny procedures, and the process for electing mayors and chairpersons. The party has additionally sought discussions on voting arrangements, enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct, neutrality of officials, security during polling and counting, and a time-bound mechanism for resolving complaints.
Appi Reddy asked the State Election Commission to circulate an agenda before the meeting and include relevant senior officials in the discussions. He said written clarifications and uniform instructions should be issued after the consultation so that the electoral process is conducted consistently across the state. A copy of the representation was also forwarded to the Election Commission of India.
The demand comes as preparations for Andhra Pradesh's local body elections gather pace. The State Election Commission has reportedly been working on a two-phase plan with the aim of completing the election process by December 2026. The YSRCP's request for an all-party consultation comes amid preparations by both the opposition and ruling alliance for the polls, with the election schedule and other procedural details yet to be formally notified.
